Arweave.org aims to make information permanence sustainable. Arweave describes itself as a new type of storage that backs data with sustainable and perpetual endowments, allowing users and developers to store data forever. As a collectively owned hard drive that never forgets, Arweave aims to allow users to remember and preserve valuable information, apps, and history indefinitely. By preserving history, it prevents others from rewriting it.
While these technologies are intertwined, each plays a pivotal role in creating a new type of network suited for both fast transactions and low-cost permanent storage. Arweave introduces two new concepts that allow nodes to fulfill key network functions without possessing the whole chain. The first of these concepts is the block hash list, a list of the hashes of all previous blocks.
Arweave.org allows old blocks to be verified, and potential new blocks evaluated effectively. The second of these concepts is the wallet list, a list of all active wallets in the system. This allows transactions to be verified without possessing the block in which the last transaction was used. Using these blockhash list and wallet lists synchronized by the network and available for download by the miners, nodes are able to join the network and participate in mining the weave almost immediately.

Getting Started
Setting up your wallet is super easy, simply click the Arweave icon in your browser menu to get started. If you’re a first time user select Create a new wallet, and if you have an existing Arweave key file, you can select Import an existing wallet. For those of you with existing wallets, you can jump to the ‘Existing Users’ section further down the page.
Your Encryption Passphrase
In addition to downloading the key file to your computer/hard drive, a copy of the file will also exist in the web extension. Don’t worry though, your browser storage is secure and there are lots of mechanisms to stop malicious content (like websites and other extensions) from accessing it. However, this doesn’t stop anybody with physical access to your machine, so setting an encryption passphrase adds an additional layer of protection.
How can They optimise my mining performance?
Because of the way that the Arweave proof of access system works, miners are favourably rewarded for offering hard drive space above raw hashing power, meaning that efficient miners will optimise on this variable first.
Hard drive space will become an increasingly important part of the mining process as more data is stored in the system.
